Polar Bear 5k, Presented by Runners Roost Fort Collins
What an incredible gathering of winter warriors! After enduring the most frigid week of the season, hundreds of runners crawled out of hibernation to a snowstorm. but they were determined to conquer the Polar Bear 5k and Plunge—on yet another less-than-comfortable day.

Runners ranged in age from 7 to 73 but smiles raged all the same proving that when it comes to grit, some numbers just don’t matter. This event wasn’t just about runners—it was dads and daughters, teams and training partners, best friends and furry friends all walking, jogging, and racing through the snow! Every pace was celebrated at the finish line and welcomed to a post-race celebration sponsored by Odell Brewing. Some runners took on the challenge of racing Bear Tellus, some were surprised (or mildly startled!) by the wild polar bear roaming the course, and some runners got a bear hug or two. Whether it was the burn of the 5k, or the bite of frost on the cheeks, the race got that inner fire burning.
Winners in overall and age group categories strutted home with towel trophies—the perfect kitchen flex and top dogs took home prize bags of toys and treats. Meanwhile, cozy Polar Bear 5k sweatshirts were a crowd favorite, keeping everyone warm and stylish post-race.
Race participation also gave back in a big way, raising funds for the Colorado State University Triathlon Team, the Rocky Mountain High School Cross Country Team, Boltz Middle School Wresting Team, and FoCo Cafe. Together, we didn’t just run—we ran for a purpose.
