Winter All Stars

Runner of the Month: Tyler McCandless

Who ran the Sharin’ O’ The Green 5k in 15:14 and walked away with a prize purse of $777? Fort Collins runner Tyler McCandless!

In 2010, Tyler ran 2:17 and qualified for the 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials in his marathon debut. Since then, he’s been competing in an array of distances from the mile to the marathon. Tyler’s top priority in life is family and he could not balance everything without the support of his wife Kristin. The majority of mornings at 6am when he is not working out or chasing Strava segment crowns, you can find him and Kristin on treadmills at home getting their runs in before their young sons are up for the day. You can follow Tyler’s running journeys on his blog: Tyler McCandless – Tyler McCandless Blog

Tyler also holds a special place in Green Events’ heart for sending a thank you note to the Lucky 7s cash prize purse sponsor, Cotter Plumbing! Tyler, you are incredibly inspirational not just for your athletic accomplishments but for your amazing attitude! We cannot wait to see what else lies ahead for you!

Volunteer of the Month: Chris Howard

Not only does Chris own and operate Sport About, the local shop responsible for printing all Green Events race shirts, but he volunteers regularly for Green Events too! Chris keeps all race participants on the straight and narrow by course marshalling. Next time you finish a race without deviating from the course or being encroached on by a vehicle, thank a course marshal, it may just be Chris. He has been the course marshal at the same intersection for 8 years! Outside of the shop and the orange safety vest, Chris is an avid cyclist, often racking up the miles with Green Events race director, Lisa Sinclair.

If you are a business, a team, or find yourself in the need for custom printed shirts, contact Sport About! Fun Fact: Sport About has the world’s cutest shop dog, Albert!

Chris, thank you for all the work you do! The Green Events shirts are printed wonderfully, and your course marshaling skills are invaluable!

Ambassador of the Month: Dan Yap

Dan is a busy man! Between fulfilling his role as a Green Events ambassador, representing Runners Roost Fort Collins on the race team, and working, it’s a wonder he has time for sleep! It’s a good thing he’s passionate about running as that’s all this man seems to do. Whether he is pacing local races, volunteering for Green Events and other local running events, or racing, it’s a sure bet that you can find him out on the local running trails.

Dan was on the original Green Events Ambassador Team and has been for multiple years. When there is a packet stuffing you can be sure Dan is there. If there is a group run, Dan is front and center.

His race docket is pretty full this year, having already run in the Run Love 10k, Sharin O’ The Green 5k, and the Spring Equinox 4 Mile.

I want to stay healthy,  and run smart and strong.  I have two big goals this year; run a sub 2 hr half marathon and finish a 50k.  My goal every year is to continue to spread my love of running through the community by giving back. I do this by attending group runs, pacing half marathons and volunteering whenever and wherever I can!

My favorite Green Events race is the Fall Equinox Half. I love The gorgeous views, the challenge of a half marathon, and the great finish line!

Dan, thank you for all that you give to the running community! We have never met a better race packet organizer or box assembler!
