January All Stars

Runner of the Month: Manic Tribe

If you ran the Polar Bear 5k, did you notice the sea of matching light gray t-shirts scattered throughout the race this year and the VIP team area at the 5k course?  That was the Manic Tribe of the Manic Training Gym and every January, they bring a whole new level of fun and excitement to the Polar Bear 5k & Polar Plunge!  Over the past few years, it has become a tradition at Manic Gym that each January the Manic Tribe runs the 5k then plunges into Horsetooth Reservoir.  This year, 112 Manic Tribe members pounded the pavement and took the plunge!

Volunteer of the Month: Larimer County Dive Rescue Team

If you participated in the Polar Plunge, did you courageously wade out into the water and high five the crew wearing big yellow dry suits? That was the Larimer County Dive Rescue Team (LCDRT) and they stood in the freezing water for several hours during the polar plunge to ensure participants safety and to help make some amazing memories!

The primary mission of the Larimer County Dive Rescue Team is the rescue and/or recovery of people and property involved in water related accidents. Over the years, LCDRT has worked hand in hand with Larimer County Emergency Medical Services, Larimer County Sheriff’s Department, Poudre Fire Authority and many other emergency agencies.

They are a 100% volunteer team and without them this event couldn’t happen!

Ambassador of the Month: Dean Bennet

For 22 years, Dean Bennet served the community as a police officer and though he has recently retired, Dean continues to serve the city and county of Broomfield in the City Managers Office by improving diversity, equity, and inclusion for all city staff and community members.

With such big responsibilities, Dean turns to running to keep his mind and body sharp.  His wife, Karen Bennett, is also a Green Events Ambassador and you can often find the pair running together or volunteering for the community.  At the Polar Bear 5k, Dean volunteered as course marshal to keep participants safe and on the right path.
