Kiss & Tell
By Poudre Pet & Feed Supply
True or false, is it true that your dogs mouth is cleaner than your own?
Answer: MYTH! There’s a number of diseases humans can catch from dog kisses such as: Salmonellosis, Capnocytophaga Canimorsus, Campylobacteriosis, Canine Brucellosis, and Leptospirosis.Capnocytophaga Canimorsus, a bacteria commonly found in a dog’s mouth has a reputation for causing dog bites to become infected.
So when you enjoy being licked down by your dog, be sure that you dont have any open wounds, or try not to get a kiss directly to your mouth. Please keep your pet up to date on vaccines and tend to any open cuts you may have!
You don’t have to deprive your pooch of love though! It’s also proven that loving your dog or cat has bodily benefits such as stress control, lower risk of having a stroke or heart disease, aids in depression, monitors blood sugar levels for diabetics, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol, and improves immunity.
So say thank you to your pet during the month of love and get them a treat or toy to show your appreciation!
