Horsetooth Tri-Training Welcome to year 11!
By Anna Petr
The Horsetooth Tri Training Open Water Swim Series kicks off every year the first Wednesday in June at the South Bay Swim Beach. The event offers a unique option for triathletes to practice open water swimming or for swimmers to change up their scenery from that same black line on the bottom of the pool! In addition, this event creates a fun community of all ages and abilities with the 10-week series meeting on Wednesday nights starting in June for 12 weeks over the summer.
Also offered at the weekly Tri Trainings is a Swim Clinic from 5:00 to 5:50 pm before the Open Water Swimming Event from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. There will be a course set up that is 500m, but swimmers are welcome to go up to 3,000m. If you really want to get your “tri” on, there is even a 5k run course set up afterward. Hot or cold beverages and snacks are provided!
Our gracious sponsors Rocky Mountain Multisport, Berkana Rehab, and the Swim Clinic sponsor MP Multisport help make this an unrivaled all-inclusive adventure.
We are fortunate to have Rocky Mountain Multisport at this event every week providing free wetsuit demos. Initially, wetsuits can feel unfamiliar and can pose problems when it comes to getting them on and off quickly. Luckily for you, RMM and Green Events came together to make a video where local triathlete Ben Randall demonstrates the easiest way to put on a wetsuit and some tips and tricks to get one off quickly!

MP Multisport strives to provide critical coach-athlete relationships and a holistic style of training for endurance athletes. We are lucky to have their expertise in our Swim Clinic as the coaches teach new swimmers how to stay calm in open water, how to swim straight, and how to swim in a group start. For more experienced athletes, these coaches provide insight on techniques related to drafting, sighting, and race day strategies.
Berkana Rehab also contributes valuable advice on recovery and injury prevention for endurance athletes. We hope to learn a lot to keep everyone healthy and active this summer and into the rest of the year!
So, all that being said, here’s what you need to know for the weekly event:
