February All Stars

Runner of the Month: Jason Sullivan

Jason Sullivan not only won the 2022 Catch Me If You Can 5k with a finish time of 19:14 but he arrived at the race early to help set up the course and stayed afterwards to help tear it town.  He is very involved with Green Events and is always ready to lend a helping hand. He has run just about every Green Events race from the Fall Equinox Half Marathon to the Sweaty Sweater 4-mile.  Jason got into running in 2016 to get healthy and sober. What works for him is setting a goal or a key race then making a training outline for the week. When Jason is not running, he is doing cross-fit, riding his bike, or relaxing on the couch.

Green Events really appreciates everything you do, Jason!

Volunteer of the Month: Max Poling (Compost Queen)

Did you get a burrito at this year’s Catch Me If You Can 5k and 10k?

Well, the man that handed you that delicious after-run treat was Max Poling and even though he was at the event to spread awareness for his and his wife’s, Jamie Blanchard-Poling’s, business, Compost Queen, Max didn’t hesitate to jump in to make sure hungry runners got their burritos!  Compost Queen has been working with Green Events for years to increase awareness of composting and recycling and how important those are for sustainable events. After each Green Events event, all the compost is taken away by Compost Queen who turns it into garden-grade nutritional compost!

Thank you, Max, for being an amazing surprise volunteer and keeping Green Events green!

Ambassador of the Month: Karen Bennett

Karen Bennet picked up running in 2014 by running her first 5K race with no training, and from that point on she was hooked! Karen has run many 5K, 10K, and half marathon races, feeling grateful each time she crosses the finish line that she decided to become a runner. Since joining the running community, she has been dismantling her distance bests, with shiny new PRs ranging from 2 to 20 minutes in the past year in 5k, 10k, and half marathon races. If you stop by Rocky Mountain High School be sure to say hi to Karen! She is the Assistant Principal!

This October, Karen is combining two of her loves, running and children, by running the TCS London Marathon to raise funds for Children with Cancer UK.  If you would like to help support the cause and Karen’s fundraiser, CLICK HERE.

Green Teammate of the Month: Hazel

Did you see the beautifully decorated kissing booth at this year’s Catch Me If You Can 5k and 10k? That was all thanks to Hazel who was recently promoted to Green Events Chief Decorating Officer! After volunteering for Green Events for several years, she started working for Green Events in the summer of 2021. Hazel does about everything behind the scenes from beautifying event spaces, working packet pickup, and stuffing packets. When she is not using her keen eye for interior design and athletic aesthetics, she is in the swimming pool. Hazel swims and dives for her high school teams, and even though she already has a packed schedule, she still somehow is available to coach swim lessons!
