Runner of the Month: Scott Elementary School Run Club

It takes courage to run your first ever organized running event and it takes even more courage to run your first ever organized running event in a city you have never been too. Despite being around 10 years old, the members of Scott Elementary School Run Club not only left their hometown (Greeley) for the first time but took on the challenge of running their first ever race, and boy-howdy they did fantastic! The run club is an amazing example to get out of our comfort zones and try something new!

Green Events is impressed by the courage of these children and the example that they set!

Volunteer of the Month: Vern Kellie

After a Green Events run one of the first things you do is scroll through Facebook to find your epic finish line photo, but do you ever stop and think who took that photo? It could have been Vern, a professional photographer who volunteers for many Green Events races! Having grown up in a photo studio (his mother was a wedding and portrait photographer), Vern is no stranger to being behind the camera. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in computer science and professional photography. He enjoys capturing people and movement which makes him a remarkable fit for being a racing events photographer. Of all the events he photographs, his favorites to shoot are the FireKracker 5k and the Sweaty Sweater 5k in the winter. “The costuming is wonderful” he says, “and that makes for some interesting photographs.” Green Events appreciates your time and talent, Vern. Thank you so much for capturing the moment!

Ambassador of the Month: Melanie Anderson

To get back into shape after having her children, Melanie started running. However, it wasn’t until she decided to run her first half marathon for her 40th birthday that she became addicted to the race atmosphere! In addition to running countless 5ks, 10ks, relays and half marathons, she also has 4 full marathons under her hydration belt and is tackling her first ultra this summer! Anyone who knows her knows that if you ask her about running, she simply won’t stop talking!

Thank you for your infectiously cheerful outlook, Melanie! We can’t wait to see what your next running costume is!

Green Teammate of the Month: Kathryn House-Presnell

As the assistant to the Green Events race director, Kathryn is proud to be a part of the green machine. Whether she is picking up donuts, coordinating vendor booths, setting up tents, promoting upcoming races, drafting her article as teammate of the month, or cleaning out the Green Events truck, Kathryn is thankful to be a part of such an amazing community!

Off the clock, Kathryn is training for her own upcoming events. Her first marathon is this year at the New York City Marathon! She doesn’t have a certain time goal in mind. She explains, “I’m running the same 26.2 miles as everyone else on the course. I would just like to finish before the sweeper vehicle picks me up. If it does though, I will ride it with honor.”
