January All Stars

Runner of the Month: Manic Training Team

You may have noticed a sea of light blue polar bear shirts scattered throughout the Run & Plunge this year, which made it hard to miss this group full of energy and excitement. Manic Training had 60 people from their gym come out to participate in the event!

We also had teams from various local businesses/organizations who signed up for the event as a team building activity. What a great idea! OtterBox employees and Ciclismo Youth Foundation board of directors were a couple of the teams that participated in the event as well.

Fort Collins you are a great community!

Volunteer of the Month: Larimer County Dive Rescue Team

If you participated in the Polar Plunge you had the opportunity to meet the crew wearing the big yellow dry suits who stood in the water for a couple of hours! Larimer County Dive Rescue Team (LCDRT) not only helped make sure everyone was safe plunging into the icy cold water, they helped break the ice and clear the area so everyone could create some fantastic memories.

There are 15 men and women certified with the Larimer County Dive Rescue team. Their primary mission is the rescue and/or recovery of people and property involved in water related accidents. Over the years, LCDRT has worked hand in hand with Larimer County Emergency Medical Services, Larimer County Sheriff’s Department, Poudre Fire Authority and many other emergency agencies. They are a 100% volunteer team and without them this event couldn’t happen!

Thank You LCDRT!

Ambassador of the Month: Alex May

Did you know Green Events has an Ambassador Team? In 2019 we will be highlighting an ambassador each month so you can get to know more about the runners and community Green Events has cultivated. Since January started off with an incredible experience, we figured we would keep the momentum going by showcasing an incredible person as well. You won’t see Alex May running at any of the events this year, yet he will be participating in every single one of the virtually, in China!

Alex and his wife, Nora are living, teaching, and running at an International School in Hangzhou, China for the next two years!  Alex grew up in Southern California and moved to Fort Collins in 2006. Alex has been teaching math and coaching cross country and track for 22 years. He has been very involved in the Fort Collins running community for 12 years and loves to race everything from road 5ks to 100-mile trail races in the mountains, he has been running with Green Events since the very beginning!

• Favorite place to run: Pineridge Natural Area
• Favorite Green Events Race: Sweaty Sweater 4 Miler
• Favorite part about running: Most of my best friends are people that I’ve met and gotten to know through the running community. The running community is supportive, encouraging and fun to be with.
